yes hello! well in mail grab bag lately we’ve got FAQ about what its like to work at Emerson Offices so lets take look at the ThangsHappening lately photo reel and see if there are some topics to discuss here!

but back to business well first item is this bucket outside of shipping facility HQ. who put it here and what is going on with it.

next item is sometimes when one’s at the shipping HQ offices one wants to go on a group outing to to try the purely herbal clove cigarette that wonderful HQ girl Laura finds for shoots incase one really wants to revert back to smoking the cigarette for 5 minutes on a blue moon. they’re herbal so you know no nicotine. smell like burning fall leaves. taste that way too. do you want one? why are you backing away
and Pedro needs an opportunity to wear a gold ribbon as a leash instead of his usual black and you know the dog likes that
and just look at the dog here. Pedro, what is going on with you. you look crazed.
anyway we have an herbal smoke on friday night when Pedro and i stand at customer service area to skim the contents of FAQ mail bag for a little relaxation
no no- i do not endorse smoking! but please let me puff on the one herbal cigarette on fridays. its just the one and a its a fake puff really. just to make smoke.

FAQ grab bag #1: Hi Emerson, what do you think of cosmetic surgery/botox etc?
A: Hi there well this is NFAQ but it did grab my attention so lets do it!
well you know to me I think that thing called bad lighting exists and its just best not to stand in it! Move around the room. Find the good lighting. Stick there. Call your people over and have them stick there with you too. The whole thing will be more enjoyable.
In terms of lines in the face well let me parlay into this other thing. Recently i watched excellent documentary about the race car driver named Senna. its such a beautifully
told story and it gives great perspective on what an intensely focused and physical art that is, the art of driving fast. Its a very beautiful thing. But don’t make this sort of conversation with that strapping police officer from your drivers window and then ask him where he buys his boots! he is not in the mood for that right now. he needs to focus on you and your speed and not on that other side issue. Trust me on it
Anyway you see Senna in his early glow of youth at the start. and then a couple years go by and those lines of focus intensify in his face. he’s still in his youth but the lines of intensity, they intensify. Well I find that face of focus very attractive on both men and women and you know that just comes more with age.
of course we have this thing about it. smoothness is a concern for us in our times. it used to be corsets and for some it was bound feet. now we’ve got smoothness. you know- oh hell look what i did! i concentrated too hard and now look theres a line there. but for me it stays for now and frankly probably forever. we’ll see where i go with it. but of course if one needs to put botox in there well why not. whatever makes one feel at home in the face so they can keep moving.
for me you know my mother passed away when i was younger. so i’ve definitely got to go ahead and keep aging. and i’ve got to work professionally up to age 76 and then spend the next 20+ years painting and studying the evolution of Ryans personality. so yes i plan to advance in age and thats a thing i find attractive in other people so why not
so yes anyway I say just stand in good lighting as much as possible, the whole duration of life. 5 year olds included. They’ve got their issues

FAQ. Dear Emerson, where do you get your inspiration/how do you stay inspired?
A. Hello there every week we get this question and i like it. i get inspiration from all over. in fact the problem is more often reigning it in.
above here is a gorgeous pinstripe suit from spring line and let me tell you a little about that inspiration. Double breasted mens linen suits from the 1920s/30s, its something i’ve collected and of course being mens they’re cut long and oooh lala. you know what i’m saying. that jacket hits just below the hip on a woman and i personally find that very nice for the womens leg especially in heels. and pinstripe! whatever happened to it. where did it go! it feels like we’ve been in a pinstripe recession for a long time now and i want to see some more of that. so we’ve got this pinstripe linen, double breasted suit coming up for spring and i’m exicted about that. i’ll personally be wearing it to high heaven with mile high stilettos every chance i get.

Interview Cuts from London with LOve
hello! below are cuts from a business interview a few weeks back with a beautiful friend in London who’s doing a little something on the line and she kindly agreed to send us the outtakes for anyone who’s into that kind of thing. and you know i cut some out of it, it was too long. for anyone who’s not into a read its going to be a zzzzz so just bypass it!.

Q. Whats the best advice you can give for someone who doesn’t know what to do with her life?:
.
A. well I’d say sit down in the quiet one afternoon and ask yourself questions and then answer them. ‘what are you meant to be doing 5 years from now’. the answers will come and why not go for the ones that put you on the edge of your seat. those are the good ones. this one life’s only happening once so might as do something that makes your heart leap on a regular basis. that’s my very best advice.
Q. What do you like most about your job?:
A. I like that I get to make beautiful clothes and see them on beautiful women around the world
and for me clothes are not a superficial thing. they enhance your experience of life so directly. so you may as well dress for the moments you wish to have. slide into a silk summer dress, running errands around town is better. wear some slim fitting jeans with the right jacket and cross the street in a pair of stilettos. you know what I’m saying. Which of course is why the coming shoe line is so heavy on stilettos. It feels like we’ve been in a terrible stiletto recession and we’re finally coming out of it. I plan to do my part for the revival.
Q. Where do you get your inspiration?:
A. with what women are doing today, running all over having lives globally for their professions, going from coast to coast, across the pond and back- good lord women are so busy doing it all, having jobs, having babies, making it all happen so buying heels and doing shopping for that life is sort of a nice little breather isn’t it. it allows one to slow down and give a gift to yourself occasionally. it’s a way to enjoy the moment and plan for the next. enhance the things coming. And so I like to think about what I can give her for that
Q. What is the design process like for you?:
A. it is absolutely enjoyable and i would not do any other thing. of course its challenging, but if everything were easy where would we be. we’d be zenning around all day and you know that actually doesn’t sound like such a bad idea does it. maybe we can figure out a way to both i’ll look into it.
Q. What are the 5 must haves for a woman’s wardrobe?:
A. well #1. is of course good jeans. Something you can do an inside roll to make ankle length or push down and make them hit the top of the stiletto to make that long clean line all the way down the leg.
#2. the simple modish dresses we have coming up. yes yes I’m talking about what we have coming up here! because that’s all i do is think about this in constance. anyway modish dresses- Not only do they absolutely go from day to night, because they are such clean unfussy shapes you can transform them totally with your choice of footwear. do stilettos and you can get out to the party in them. low Sandals and you can run errands in them. If someone snaps your photo on either occasion you look really chic but in an effortless way. Bestly they are absolutely comfortable and show off those long legs and gorgeous arms of yours while letting you breathe and live
#3. a 1920s style linen mens suiting jacket because they are a bit longer and they give that long leanish thing to the leg. and of course that’s the decade when women really started to take ownership of the trouser, well ownership of it all really thank god. Anyway why not do the whole suit because you like to wear the jacket and the pants separately.
#4. Having some breezy knee skirts that you can tuck a slim fitted T shirt into, put on a pair of stilettos, grab your clutch, slide jewelry onto the hands, draw a dark line of coal over the eyes, spritz something wonderful on your wrists and and muss up the hair a little bit in the elevator and hail the cab and by the way you look great lets get a picture
#5. our marvelous perfume we’re doing for you next year
#6. well look we have to put a #6 here to top off! so top off all that sensibility with something absolutely beautiful and unnecessary. something that is the opposite of a must have. you’ve got to have at least one of those things a quarter. but i can’t tell you what that is in the line because those have to be surprises for later
Q. Who writes for you/does your blog?:
A. This is such a strange question we are getting so frequently these days. Are other people having someone write for them? I suppose they are but I couldn’t do it simply because it wouldn’t work. What would I tell them to do: “so and so, go pen me something about fruit flies in the wine glass?” how the hell would they even know where to start. And well i’d just end up rewriting the whole thing myself. If other people are having people write for them I don’t know how they deal with the inaccuracy.
and of course i write for Pedro because i can tell what he’s thinking and honesty how can you trust that dog with the responsibility. he’s just not capable, I’m just going to be frank.
Q. Is there anything you would have changed about your business looking back?:
A. No. I never look back in that way. what a waste of time! I only think of things as they apply to the present. the past is of absolutely no concern to me.
Q. What are you most excited about going forward?:
A. well i’m excited about everything really but one nice thing is we’ve spent the last 365 days working day and night to secure the production capabilities we have now and get everything up to the point and one great reward is looking ahead to expand the line to include some pieces that keep me up at night. these are beauty for beauty’s sake pieces and i just have to throw price point concerns out the window so they can live in the fullness of what they need to be. so anyway we’ll make a few of these pieces for women who need things like that in their lives.
but in general I want to have a range of prices because you know how it is when you want to give yourself the gift of a gorgeous thing but can’t blow everything on it. And let’s face it when you collect coats and heels like some of us do – well you’ve got to make that money spread across an expansive wardrobe collection
it’s why i decided early on – which many people thought was crazy- not to do wholesale. because in the department store/boutique market most of our 2012 dresses are going to be in the $800+ range. you have middle man mark up when you sell through wholesale channels. selling direct puts our prices far less than that. and I don’t do that for a business thing. it’s a heart thing. I want the girl who loves the coat to have the fucking coat. as you can see i get flamed up about it.
maybe i’ll change my mind later and go into the wholesale market but for now lets just keep the prices better for her and sell to her direct.
Q. Do you think you’ll stick to online vs having brick and mortar shop?:
A. Well we’re currently looking for shop spaces in nyc and london for our women there. but online, we love it because if there’s one thing we’ve learned about our collectors is she’s a busy woman who needs to shop for the things happening in her life at all hours, whenever she can squeeze it in. and we love to see our customers ordering from all over the world. it’s a lot of fun to have that connection to beautiful women around the world.
Q. What would your advice be for women in business today?:
A. well I’d think its the same as being a man in business today. you’ve got to know why you’re doing things and be absolutely invested in reality.
and wear some heels once and awhile to remind them who’s boss.

Hi Ryan here and i’m posting a picture of E working in her coat. she has an enormous collection of these coats and i’ve been taking pictures of her wearing them for so long…
Q. Emerson, how many of these coats do you have in your collection. it seems like a lot. in fact it seems like the collection grows every time i look?
A. Ryan, thank you for your Q. i have 24 of this particular style of coat in my collection. it didn’t happen all at once of course i’ve been collecting this very particular style of leopard print for many years at auctions and vintage markets around the world. i purchased my 6th at 16 so you get a sense of how long i’ve been at this collection. but! but you’d be amazed at the variation. and you know it’s all about variation. just like it is with great heels. variations = collect. onwards, do you remember the little leopard blouse we made from last spring? that was this very particular leopard print. well this year we’re doing more of it and thats a selfish thing because its for my own wardrobe as much as our collectors. i seem to need more of it. i have a problem perhaps? perhaps no.
FAQ. do you have a place in nyc/what neighborhood?
A. Hi Reader, thank you for your Q. the bowery hotel is our second home and they are like family as we’re here much of the time. to me theres no better place on earth than bowery hotel but we do keep thinking about about getting another place here because we produce line and have to work here in manhattan. but you know we also travel so often for EM at this point its nice to not have to maintain anything. we’ve got enough to maintain as it is with the business and Pedros farm. this is what i tell myself when i talk to my friend anna who’s in real estate and keeps filling my inbox with tempting listings
for what neighborhood- we’ll always be downtown. Brooklyn’s great too and my beautiful sisters over there but yes we’re staying in downtown manhattan by the looks of it
Q. Dear Pedro, what kind of shampoo do you use? how do you keep your hair so silky?
A. Reader, thank you so much i really appreciate that. i do not use a particular kind as i like to try out many in my evening baths. in fact you could call me somewhat of a one night stand or even an orgy-esque user when it comes to maintaining the fur. the other night i tried out several at once. one that smelled of roses and my god what a lathery scent was created. lathery, bubbly heaven on earth. i’ll probably get back on that rose one later this week. after that its citrus.

ok thank you for your Q’s readers! who wants a tea break before getting back to business. some dark tea and an herbal cigarette… of course not the latter! i don’t do that puffing except sometimes! and i mean rarity! at the latest night of occasions after a dinner on the street or some such thing and not even a full puff. a half puff. ok no puff! alright! no puff except enough to make a little smoke! but when the tea arrives into my hand i’ll think about the combination and thats a fact
